Anthro Reviews: Best of the Worst Part I

Some reviews for you. I'm struggling to find things that I want to try on at Anthro and I don't have the patience to try things on just for fun these days. I really miss Floreat/Burlapp items - clothes that I cold wear for work and going out. Anyway, here are some random tops (and a pair of pants) that were "the best of the worst" - these were the only tops I was remotely interested in trying on, everything else in store didn't even register a glance from me. I don't think any of them will make it into my closet, at either full or sale price.

Shawl-Colllar Boatneck - $68; now $39.95
This is a small which is why it looks like it's swallowing me whole. Can't say I love the seam down the front, it makes the top look so much more casual. I like Bordeaux items but this seems like a rather pricey basic top, even on sale.

Klara Asymmetric Buttondown - $98
Pretty color but freakin' sheer! I tried on a 0 and there was more than enough room to spare - it has a very loose boxy fit. The proportions are such that I have no idea how to style such a top.

Magnetic Fields Tee - $78
Basic printed tee. It was meh. Fits TTS and was soft but I didn't care for it. Plus I'm not paying that much for a poly shirt. Other colorways are red and green.

Riparian Stream Top - $128; now $69.95
Fly away little bird. I don't know what was up with the sleeves on this top but there's a lot of material. It made my wide shoulders look even wider. Then there's the dinky tie back. This wasn't flattering at all.

Lux Blossoms Tee - $68; now $39.95
Another incarnation of the Ink Drenched and Catalan Tees reviewed here but with an uglier print (IMO). Fits the same as the others.

Warmth & Respite Cardigan - $88; now $49.95
I tried this on in navy here and decided to re-visit it when it went on sale. It was frump-city then, it's frump-city now. I realized it's because of the dolman sleeve. Add the thick chunky knit and it looked matronly. I hated this on me.

JBrand Kinsey Skinny - $198
JBrand has never been a brand that has fit me that well (I think it's because I have too much thigh and butt for this brand) and that continued with their Kinsey skinny pant. I tried on a 25 here and it was a bit tight on me. I'm sure it would stretch out after a few hours for a perfect fit but I just think JBrand proportions are a little odd fitting for my body type.

Dress reviews to come.

  1. Not loving a whole lot at Anthro lately, either - there's really nothing I'm waiting on for sale time, which says a lot. I liked the Shawl-Collar Boatneck when I tried it on, but it runs REALLY large - I'm usually a size 8 or medium in tops, and the XS fit nicely, so you'd probably be swallowed up by an XS, too!

  2. I hear you on that. My wishlist has things on it but there's really nothing I have to have. I've bought some stuff this month on sale but I'm thinking a lot of it will go back. I hope Anthro picks up their designs soon.
